Production, Maturation and Preparation
The sardines are selected at the harbour and cleaned by hand. They are preserved in olive oil and piri-piri without additives. Packaged in a 120 g can to ensure maximum flavour and preservation.
History and Origin
Matosinhos has a cultural heritage closely linked to the sea, Jacobean pilgrims and a century-old canning tradition. Until the 19th century it was agricultural land, but its connection to the sea and trade routes propelled its importance. In 1896 the first fish-canning factory was founded here, the origin of one of Portugal’s iconic brands. At its peak it produced up to 100,000 boxes a year, maintaining artisanal methods and earning the trust of prestigious clients such as Clube Naval Setubalense.
