Production, Preparation and Packaging

The sardines are hand-selected at the harbour and prepared using the traditional method of the cannery founded in 1896 by Joaquim Ferreira Pedro Luças, a pioneer of Matosinhos’ canning industry. They are confited in olive oil with green pepper, with no additives or preservatives. They are packaged in a 120 g metal tin to ensure maximum flavour preservation.

Matosinhos is a region of great historical and cultural richness. Although it was mainly agricultural until the 19th century, its link to the sea, Atlantic trade routes and the Way of St. James fostered strong industrial growth. In 1896, the first fish cannery was founded here, giving rise to an iconic brand that produced up to 100,000 boxes a year, maintaining artisanal processes and the trust of distinguished clients such as Clube Naval Setubalense.
